How To Change a Flat Tire in Sacramento, CA

It’s important to be prepared for issues on the road, like a flat tire. At Maita Toyota of Sacramento, we’ve created this guide to help you through this DIY repair. 

Gathering Your Tools

To start the process, you’ll need to gather a few necessary tools. It’s important to keep these items in your Toyota cargo area in case something happens while you’re on the go. You’ll need a car jack and a lug wrench. Of course, you’ll also need a spare tire to replace the damaged one. Aside from these essentials, you could also benefit from having a tire inflator and a tire air pressure gauge. 

Taking the First Steps

With your tools at hand, it’s time to begin the task of changing your tire. If you’re in the midst of traveling, find a safe place to park. It should be in a well-lit area that’s free of extensive traffic, ideally a parking lot or quiet side street. If you find yourself stuck on a busy road like I-5, then it’s best to call a professional for help rather than attempt the repair yourself. You can bring your Toyota to our Service Department for a tire change. If you do find a place to park your Toyota Rav4, Sienna, or Corolla, then you can loosen the bolts on the wheel. With this done, use the car jack to raise the vehicle off the ground by several inches. Now is the time to use the lug wrench to completely remove the bolts and the tire. 

Finishing Up

With the flat tire off your Toyota, it’s time to put on the spare. Place the tire in the correct position and screw the lug bolts by hand. Lower the vehicle back onto the ground and finish tightening the bolts using the lug wrench. You are now ready to get back on the road and head to local destinations, such as Haggin Oaks Golf Complex.
